Everything You Need to Know About Disney Lorcana’s Newest Chapter

Disney Lorcana’s newest expansion, Whispers in the Well, has arrived and draws players and collectors into the depths of the Inklands. It is a set shaped by echoes, half-formed memories and quiet discoveries. This release statement gathers the essential points in one place. It covers the story, the new mechanics, the cards that are generating interest and the artistry that defines the expansion.

Whether you are a returning Illumineer or exploring Lorcana for the first time, this overview is designed to help you understand what makes this chapter special and to serve as a steady reference throughout the season.

The Theme and Story

Whispers in the Well continues the larger narrative of the Great Illuminary, although this time the journey turns inward. The expansion takes us into the Ink Wells themselves, where glimmers form in incomplete and uncertain ways. These Whisper glimmers are echoes of familiar Disney characters, but they are not yet whole. They drift somewhere between memory and illusion and create an atmosphere that is unusually quiet and haunting.

New Disney worlds also make their first appearance. Gargoyles introduces a brooding gothic presence through Goliath, Demona and the rest of the clan. The Headless Horseman rides in from Sleepy Hollow, bringing a sense of supernatural tension. The Black Cauldron deepens Lorcana’s connection to darker fantasy through the Horned King. The combined effect is a thoughtful mix of nostalgia, danger and discovery that gives the set a distinct identity within the wider game.

Release Details and Products

Whispers in the Well pre-released on 7 November 2025 in local game stores and entered general retail on 14 November 2025.

Two starter decks lead the range.

Amber and Emerald focuses on adaptable control and careful management of lore. Sapphire and Steel highlights the Gargoyles and their use of resources.

The full set contains 204 main cards as well as 18 Enchanted cards, 18 Epic cards and 2 Iconic cards. Collectors can expect refined foiling techniques, cohesive visual framing and a range of products that includes booster boxes, gift sets and the Illumineer’s Trove.

Key Mechanics and Gameplay Shifts

The set builds upon familiar Lorcana structures but expands them in ways that influence how games unfold.

The Boost ability allows players to place cards beneath certain glimmers in order to strengthen their effects. It adds more value to careful sequencing and rewards players who think ahead.

Whisper glimmers, which represent incomplete echoes of characters, interact directly with Boost and offer a new layer of decision making during the mid-game.

Stone by Day is a mechanic unique to the Gargoyles. It prevents them from readying when the player has three or more cards in hand. It is a flavourful and mechanically interesting translation of the source material.

There is also a new anti-Evasive effect that allows Gargoyles to challenge characters that would normally avoid engagement. This provides an answer to decks that rely on Evasive glimmers for uninterrupted lore gain.

Together, these changes create a set that feels more varied and strategic than many earlier releases.

Key Cards to Watch

Demona, Scourge of the Wyvern Clan (Steel, Enchanted) A powerful presence that rewards players who manage their hand with care and who know when to apply pressure.

Goliath, Clan Leader (Steel, Legendary) A stabilising card that offers draw and defensive value. It suits midrange lists that rely on measured decisions rather than sudden swings.

Headless Horseman, Rider in the Night (Amethyst, Epic) A card that has quickly become a favourite within the community. It returns from the discard pile and embodies the theme of persistence that runs through the set.

Horned King, Master of the Cauldron (Amethyst, Rare) A strong option for players who enjoy discard and recursion-based strategies. It opens room for slower, more controlling deck types.

Ariel, Spectral Performer (Amber, Epic) A card that accelerates resources through Song synergy and connects older musical cards to the new mechanics.

Whisper Glimmer: Ethereal Discovery (Ruby, Uncommon) A clear example of how Boost scales in power, especially when used in decks that embrace the Whisper theme.

These cards illustrate the range within the set. Some are likely to shape competitive play, while others are simply striking additions for collectors.

Art and Presentation Highlights

Ravensburger has continued to refine Lorcana’s visual identity. Whispers in the Well uses deep shadows, spectral lighting and subtle reflective effects that make the artwork feel as though it is moving within the ink. The Enchanted versions of Demona and the Headless Horseman are especially notable. Their layered foiling produces a sense of depth that has already impressed collectors.

The frame design across the set is consistent and refined. Whisper glimmers in particular appear to glow from within, which adds a sense of presence both on the table and in a binder.

In Closing

Whispers in the Well marks an important moment in Lorcana’s development. New franchises, thoughtful mechanics and striking artwork combine to create a set that feels both mysterious and inviting. It is a chapter that deepens the game’s narrative and expands its strategic possibilities.
